The young forward will occupy the final spot on Melbourne United’s roster

Melbourne United is excited to announce that Akech Aliir has been elevated into a main roster position for the NBL25 season.

Originally signed as a Development Player, Aliir has excelled throughout the pre-season, leading to the decision to move the 204cm forward into the club’s 11th roster spot.

Head Coach Dean Vickerman said the decision came after a long process, adding that Aliir’s versatility and skill propelled him into the spot.

“We’ve been super impressed with his basketball IQ, his ability to really pick things up fast,” he explained.

“He can play multiple positions which was really important to us for us to be able to cover a number of spots. He’s been shooting the ball well which translated perfectly into our want to stretch the floor.

“Along with that, he’s shown great composure. Everyone saw in the game the other night his poise, going out there and making a game-winning basket.

“I think he really belongs in the NBL. Having an 11-man roster this year, I think there’s going to be opportunities for him to contribute.”

This move completes United’s roster build for NBL25.

With so much excitement ahead of the upcoming season, the time is now to lock in your seats to see United’s return to John Cain Arena.
