Barlow was one of many Victorian to feature on Melbourne United’s inaugural roster

For Heritage Round in NBL25, our goal was to pay tribute to Melbourne United's inaugural season in the NBL, and the stars that gave their all on the court every night.

One such star was now assistant coach David Barlow, who returned from five seasons abroad to suit up for his hometown team.

As part of that inaugural season, Barlow and his teammates took to the court in a jersey featuring ‘VICTORIA’ across the front, which aimed to pay tribute to the 1953 Victorian State team.

Now, 11 seasons on, our current group will hit the court wearing the updated and refreshed uniform when we take on the Brisbane Bullets at John Cain Arena on 8 December from 2:30pm.

Ahead of the game, Barlow touched on his memories from playing on that team, and added his excitement to see the lineup from United’s inaugural season celebrated on Sunday.

"Being a part of that inaugural United lineup is special, especially considering how far we’ve come, what we’ve achieved and the club and team that we are today,” he said.

"At that time, we were the only team playing in Melbourne, and as someone who grew up in Melbourne and played all my junior basketball here, it was cool to put on that jersey and in a way represent the state at the pro level and unite the junior clubs of Victoria.

"That was a team with great Victorian players like Daniel Kickert and Nate Tomlinson. I'm excited to see our group this year pay tribute to that team."

Tickets still remain available to see United’s current stars take to the court in our Heritage Round uniforms via Ticketek.com.
