Melbourne United assistant coach Jacob Chance will act as Head Coach for the Australian Boomers across the November FIBA window.
Chance, 31, is in his second year with Melbourne United, and has spent the past two years as part of the Boomers coaching staff as a video assistant.
Speaking to Melbourne United Media, Chance touched on his excitement to be stepping into the role.
“I’m really proud,” he said.
“It’s been awesome to be a part of the Boomers program for the past couple of years since 2022.
“I’ve been to a bunch of these windows and have worked with a lot of this group that we’re going to take away here so it’s exciting to be in a new role.
“It fills me with a lot of confidence that I know what these things take, they're a little bit unique in how they're set up, but I've got a really good staff around me and we're gonna take away a good group that will get the job done.”
Since joining Melbourne United, Chance has worked closely with Australia Olympic legends Matthew Dellavedova and Chris Goulding, as well as up-and-coming Boomers players Jack White and Kyle Bowen.
Seeing the tireless work they put in at United and with the national team is exactly what he wants to see during his time at the helm of the team.
“I just think the most important thing when you put that green and gold on is playing for the front of the jersey, and those guys (Matthew Dellavedova and Chris Goulding) do that here at United,” he explained.
“So does Jack White and Kyle Bowen who've gone away and experienced it too, as well as guys that have come through junior pathways like Tanner Krebs.
“We have that here at United too, those guys come in every day with a selfless attitude and it's all about winning games.
“That'll be the mindset when we go away and hopefully we’ll have a couple of Melbourne United guys in there as well to help us carry that through.”
Goulding and White have both been named as members of the initial 12-man squad.
Australia will play two games in November. First against Thailand in Bangkok on 21 November at 11pm AEDT, before facing Korea in Goyang on 24 November from 5pm AEDT.
