United Academy Head Coach Nathan Crosswell is hoping to continue building a direct line into the NBL.

New Melbourne United Basketball Academy (MUBA) Head Coach Nathan Crosswell says producing an NBL player through the program is his ultimate goal.

A former NBL Champion with the Melbourne Tigers, Crosswell is hoping he can help develop a pathway to bring young players through the MUBA program and into United’s lineup.

Speaking on The Extra Pass podcast, Crosswell said while it may take time, achieving this feat is his number one priority.

“I think that’s the ultimate goal,” he said of the potential to have a MUBA athlete suit up for Melbourne United.

“We’d love to be able to get a player to come all the way through that pathway and then get that opportunity.

“Whether that takes one year, whether that takes five years, who knows? For me coming in, I’ve been in the role for three weeks now so it was more about coming in and observing and seeing what’s happening in the academy and it all looks like it’s going really well.

“I’m certainly excited about it, I love the development side with that 12-18 age group. I think we can do some special things with the program and build it to the point where we’ve got more kids in it, they’re playing basketball and they’re learning the Melbourne United way.”
