The Kiwi guard has been recognised by his peers as the league’s best defender

For the second season in a row, Melbourne United star Shea Ili has claimed the Damian Martin Trophy for the Best Defensive Player at the Andrew Gaze MVP Awards Night.

Ili is in the midst of the best season of his career, averaging a career-high in steals, as well as points, rebounds and assists.

He joins Damian Martin (12'-15') and Antonius Cleveland (22'-23') as the only players to have won the award in consecutive seasons in the modern 40-minute era.

Shea and the rest of the team will next take the court when we host a best-of-three series against the winner of Tuesday night’s matchup between the Perth Wildcats and South East Melbourne Phoenix after the February FIBA window.
