Jo Lual-Acuil Jr leading the way for NBL's Dunkuary

The Hungry Jack’s National Basketball League (NBL) and Sportsbet have raised $111,000 during its highly successful DUNKUARY campaign. 
 
For every dunk in an NBL game during February, Sportsbet donated $500 to Australian Prostate Cancer. A further $500 for each dunk went into a prize pool, with a randomly selected fan to shoot for the jackpot at halftime of this Saturday’s Melbourne United v Brisbane Bullets game.
 
In total $55,500 has been donated to Australian Prostate Cancer and the other $55,500 will be up for grabs in this Saturday’s game, with the lucky fan to shoot for the money at halftime.

A total of 111 dunks were made in February, with the top players being Jo Lual-Acuil (11 dunks), Antonius Cleveland (9 dunks) and Xavier Cooks (9 dunks).

Australian Prostate Cancer is a charity of The Hospital Research Foundation Group supporting vital medical research into the detection and treatment of prostate cancer, as well as preventing the metastatic spread of the disease.
 
“To raise over $55,000 for Australian Prostate Cancer is an absolutely tremendous result,” Hungry Jack’s NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said.
 
“Raising funds for prostate cancer research, to assist with both prevention and treatment, is a vitally important cause. We are happy to have played a small part in what is an almighty fight against cancer. 
 
“Early diagnosis helps saves lives, so we encourage all men, particularly those over the age of 40, to have regular prostate cancer check-ups.” 
 
“We’re delighted to have raised $55,500 for Australian Prostate Cancer. Raising money for this vital cause is critically important, and so is raising awareness,” Sportsbet’s GM of Marketing, Tim Hernadi, said.
 
“We’re proud to come together with the NBL community during DUNKUARY and so thankful that it rained dunks.”
 
The Hospital Research Foundation Group CEO Paul Flynn said the organisation was thrilled to see such significant support going towards world-leading research into the detection, treatment and management of prostate cancer. 
 
“A huge thank you to the NBL for its generosity and raising awareness to help fight this deadly disease and bring hope to the men we love affected by prostate cancer," Flynn said.
 
“Men’s health is very important to us and while advances in research have improved prostate cancer survival rates, sadly 3,000 men still die each year from the disease."
