Melbourne United assistant coach Justin Schueller is set to depart the club after signing on as the new Head Coach of the Brisbane Bullets.
Schueller has been a mainstay at MU across the past six seasons, first coming in as a development coach before progressing to a lead assistant under Dean Vickerman.
United enjoyed a great deal of success during his tenure, winning a pair of championships and making the postseason five times.
Speaking to Melbourne United Media, Schueller thanked all those at MU who helped him develop as a coach, while adding his anticipation for his first matchup with his now former club.
“Opportunities like this don’t come your way without the support of a club like Melbourne and the staff and players you work with,” he said.
“I feel very fortunate to have been a part of MU for as long as I have and to have been part of two championships.
“I have to thank Dean for his trust and support in my time at the club, all the basketball staff and players I have worked with daily, as well as the office staff and ownership, it has made this place a great place to be a part of.
“It is an incredibly exciting opportunity for myself, and I look forward to what Brisbane will bring. My wife Cody and I will definitely miss you, but I can’t wait to now beat you.”
Having spent all six years at United together, Head Coach Dean Vickerman said he has seen Schueller grow during their time sharing the bench, and is confident he will thrive as a Head Coach.
“Justin has worked hard to advance his skills, leadership and coaching philosophy and is more than ready to Head Coach in the NBL,” he said.
“As a club we take great pride in seeing players, coaches and staff advance in their careers. We thank Justin for his contribution to United and basketball in Victoria.”
From the entire Melbourne United organisation, we wish Justin the best at the Bullets, and look forward to many exciting clashes in the future.
