‘Locked in’ White breaks down game-winning sequence

Last night’s four-point win over the Sydney Kings was a showcase of exactly why our playing group at Melbourne United is so respected.
Facing off against a team desperate to turn around recent form, we continuously came up with big plays when it mattered most.
Two of those plays came from returning star Jack White, who splashed a pair of three-pointers on the final few possessions to lead his squad to a third straight victory.
Speaking after the game, White said he was completely locked in and playing on instinct down the stretch.
“I take pride in my competitiveness and how hard I play, doing all the little things that go towards winning,” White said.
“I was definitely locked in and in that sort of mode at the end of the game, but I'd like to think I was that way throughout the rest of the game, I just have to do a better job of finishing.
“I just try to shoot the ball with confidence. The guys do a good job in instilling that in me so I just tried to make the right play for the group and fortunately it worked out.
“I sort of blacked out in the moment. I sort of wasn’t thinking, just playing off instinct so it was a pretty good feeling.”
His final make, a left-wing three, came off a pinpoint pass from Matthew Dellavedova. The NBA Championship winner left his fingerprints all over the win, as he found Chris Goulding curling to the top of the arc for another late three a few possessions earlier.
White touched on what it’s like playing with a distributor as elite as Dellavedova.
“Delly is one of the guys I’ve always looked up to and one of the great guys in this league that sets the platter for a number of guys and makes everyone around him better and he definitely did that for me right at the end there.
“I don’t get that shot and shoot it with the confidence I shoot it with if he doesn’t make that play.”
These sentiments were echoed by Head Coach Dean Vickerman.
“He’s an amazing organiser. He makes his two threes which is really important for us, just being that threat from out there.
“He sees the floor as well as anyone and then has the strength once he gets in the paint to create contact and make plays. He was great tonight.”
Our next game will be back at John Cain Arena on Monday night, Melbourne Cup Eve, against the New Zealand Breakers from 7:30pm.
