Melbourne United add American center Marcus Lee
Melbourne United is excited to announce the addition of American big-man Marcus Lee for the remainder of the NBL23 season.
Standing at 208cm and boasting a 7’3 wingspan, Lee is a tremendous vertical athlete who provides an amazing option for United around the rim at both ends of the court.
Having spent the past three years playing around the globe, including in the G-League, Italy, Turkey, Puerto Rico and Spain, Lee is thrilled to be coming to Australia and reunite with former University of Kentucky teammate Isaac Humphries.
Ahead of his former running mate joining the team, Humphries touched on how excited he is to see what Lee can add to this Melbourne United lineup.
“Put simply, Marcus is one of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of playing with,” he continued.
“He’s a guy that is always willing to go the extra mile for his teammates on the court, whether that’s protecting the rim, attacking the glass, setting great screens or finishing around the hoop.
“I can’t wait to share the court with him again.”
This glowing recommendation from Humphries, along with the consistent body of work he has put together so far across his professional career, has Head Coach Dean Vickerman equally excited ahead of Lee joining the team.
“Joining a team in the middle of a season, you need to have a great basketball IQ and be a good culture fit, and speaking to Isaac and others, we really believe he checks those boxes,” Vickerman said.
“There’s certainly no question about the energy he’s going to bring to our program. Once Ariel (Hukporti) went down, our need as a team was really to find a replacement for his role, and we believe that in Marcus Lee, we’re getting that.
“He’s a guy that is in his prime, a 6’10 rim protector who has great defensive mobility and the ability to sprint the floor, which are some of the things that Ariel would have given us.”
The addition of Lee comes on the back of Melbourne United agreeing to the mutual release of import Jordan Caroline.
The American forward showed his impressive work ethic and his professionalism since arriving in Australia, however due to the Hukporti injury and team needs, the organisation has parted ways with Caroline.
Melbourne United would like to thank Jordan for everything he gave to the club both on and off the court and wish him the best in all his future endeavours.
