United have fallen short in a high-scoring affair at John Cain Arena against the Bullets

Melbourne United have dropped their matchup with the Brisbane Bullets in the club's Member Appreciation Game.

Looking to continue his hot run of form, Rob Loe started the game perfectly, cashing a pair of three-pointers to give United the early advantage.

These made up six of his 10 points in the opening period, which led all scorers.

Flynn Cameron and Campbell Blogg also got in on the long-range action before Ian Clark made an immediate impact in his return to the court, tallying five quick points.

This was however not enough to create separation from the Bullets, with the score tied at 28-28 after 10 minutes.

The second term was similar as each side put together brief runs, but ultimately failed to pull away from each other.

Loe kept his foot on the pedal, bringing his total up to 14 points, which was matched by Clark, who found his range from all over the court.

Back-to-back-to-back threes from Jack White and Matthew Dellavedova gave Melbourne some momentum, however foul discipline hurt the home side, as the Bullets connected on 12 of their 17 trips to the free-throw line to tie up the game at 57-57 heading into the major break.

Six straight points from Matthew Dellavedova gave United some energy coming out of half-time, as did a high-flying and-one alley-oop finish from White.

Despite this, the Bullets would not go away, as their stars continued to make big shots in big moments.

This gave the visitors a one-point advantage with the fourth quarter to come.

Needing to get stops and lock down on defence, Melbourne simply couldn’t slow Brisbane’s stars.

The quartet of Cook, Bateman, Prather and Harrison combined for 104 points standing up down the stretch to hand Melbourne their fifth loss of the season.

United will be back at home on Friday 13 December for a matchup with the Illawarra Hawks at 7:30pm.
