Melbourne United have fallen short on the road against the Adelaide 36ers on Saturday evening.
Chris Goulding started the game hot, cashing in on a pair of long-range makes early on before Shea Ili took a strong drive all the way to the hoop for a bucket.
Unfortunately for the visitors, turnovers proved costly, as the 36ers were able to rack up 11 points from United’s giveaways.
This, along with 13 points from Kendrick Davis, put Melbourne in a 10-point hole to close the first quarter.
It was back and forth to start the second period, with Tanner Krebs and Matthew Dellavedova connecting from deep.
After doing damage from outside, Dellavedova and Goulding, along with Marcus Lee and Kyle Bowen attacked inside, cutting the deficit to just seven points.
Adelaide were able to hit back, pulling ahead back ahead before a Goulding layup on the buzzer reduced their lead to 13 points at the major break.
While the period started well for United, with Dellavedova sinking another three-pointer, the visitors just weren’t able claw the margain back to single digits.
Jack White skied high for a put-back slam, Lee got above the rim for an alley-oop, and Krebs and Ili made the most of their looks from deep, however turnovers continued to plague Melbourne.
Ultimately, the 36ers were able to take a 77-62 advantage into the fourth.
Needing to make the most of their opportunities late, Clark, Goulding and Loe did their best from deep, making a number of tough looks from long range.
In the end it would not be enough to secure the road win, as the Sixers finished as 19-point victors.
Melbourne will next face the Sydney Kings on the road from 7:30pm on Thursday 9 January. Fans can tune in via ESPN.
