Take a look at what stood out statistically from Round 5 right here

Welcome to STAT WRAP, Melbourne United’s weekly round-up of all the key stats from our games. Take a look below at who shined on the court, and the trends leading the way throughout the team.

O-BOARD ATTACK

Despite the loss on Sunday, Melbourne United showcased an ability to stay in games until the final buzzer thanks to their relentless energy.

Our squad came up with 17 offensive rebounds against the Phoenix, which they turned into 19 second chance points.

Marcus Lee (four O-boards) and Flynn Cameron (three O-boards) led the way, with the latter’s aggressive attack on the rim providing Melbourne with a much needed boost in big moments.

CLARK STAYS SHARP

In what was one of our worst shooting performances of the season, Ian Clark continued his ability to keep the scoreboard ticking over from all over the court.

The American guard was our top scorer, finishing with 19 points and knocking down a trio of three-pointers.

After seven games of NBL25, Clark now leads the team in scoring (15.1 points), while registering shooting splits of 51.3% from the field, 44.1% from three and 100% from the free-throw line.

LIMITING THE PACE

After five rounds, it has become clear that a major part of our league-leading defence has been the ability to slow down play and not allow teams to get out in transition.

We have given up a league-low 4.9 fast-break points per game so far this season, and have not allowed the opposition to tally any more than nine fast-break points in all seven games.

This continued on Sunday, with the Phoenix only able to muster seven points in transition.

United’s stars will look to bounce back in a big way this week as they prepare for a pair of games, first on the road against the Illawarra Hawks on Thursday from 7:30pm, which will be streamed live on ESPN via Kayo.

We will then return to John Cain Arena for our final October Super Sunday game, a clash with the Cairns Taipans from 2:30pm in The Grassroots Game.

The only way to make sure you don’t miss a second of United basketball during NBL25 is by securing a ticket today.
