Melbourne United is proud to announce the return of the Melbourne United Basketball Academy (MUBA), which is set to be bigger and better than ever in 2022.

Designed by Melbourne United Head Coach Dean Vickerman and his coaching staff, The MUBA provides an opportunity for athletes aged from under 12 to 18 to be a part of an elite basketball program.

One of the first chances to be a part of MUBA will come in the form of the January Talent ID Camps.

These camps aim to identify and evaluate the capacity of athletes who are considered to have the skill, physical attributes, and work ethic to advance to the MUBA Training Program. Led by Melbourne United staff and top coaches from Victoria, athletes will be put through their paces and participate in a series of drills to show our MUBA Talent ID scouts what they've got!

These camps will also provide the opportunity for athletes to win a full-year academy scholarship for 2022.

Following these camps, athletes will be selected and invited to be a part of the MUBA Training Program, an eight-week program focused on developing professional-level training habits.

Running concurrently will also be a new addition to the Academy, the MUBA Development Program, which will be open to all newcomers, aiming to build the skills and elite training habits of young athletes, while working as a pipeline to the higher level MUBA Training Program.

The MUBA is also excited to be running a Shooting and Handles Camp on January 24 for those looking to further develop their skills in those areas. Registrations are now open HERE.

Speaking about the Academy, Dean Vickerman said he’s excited to help develop the next generation of local basketball talent.

“We’ve seen great success with the academy so far, but I think a revamp of it; new coaching, player involvement from our major group, give it a uniqueness compared to other programs across the state,” he said.

“The ultimate goal for us is to produce a development player, or a contracted player out of the academy.”
