Across his first two NBL seasons, Ian Clark has made his mark on the league when on the court.
Having suited up for 26 games, Clark’s numbers have been strong with averages of 13.3 points on over 40% shooting from three-point range, however speaking to MU Media, the former NBA Champion says he has reason to believe we’re yet to see his best.
In both seasons, Clark came in as a mid-season replacement, allowing him little time to adjust to new gameplans and teammates.
Now, with a full preseason ahead of him, Clark is confident he can operate on an even greater level.
“For me, being able to start the season from the beginning will be a huge thing that people will be able to see on the court,” he explained.
“In the past it had been kind of tough for me to find my rhythm, right when I felt like I would be getting rolling, the season would be finishing up. In Sydney I was playing my best basketball in the Finals.
“It’s going to give me the best chance to be myself, the chance to be the true Ian on the court. I hold myself to the highest standard, so being able to settle myself and make sure this team and these fans are getting the best from me from round one is the priority.”
In those aforementioned Finals, Clark torched the nets, averaging 16.2 points per game on 52% shooting from deep, while leading all players in plus/minus en route to a perfect 5-0 record.
Fans will be hoping Clark can replicate this form alongside his new teammates, with United having assembled one of the league’s strongest cores in recent memory.
Looking at the talent surrounding him, the Tennessee native is excited to get out on the court for round one.
“Coming into a club like United, knowing the calibre and history of this organisation, I’m grateful for the opportunity and am ready to get to work.
“Everybody wants to win, so being able to put myself somewhere with a winning culture, surrounded by guys who have won at the highest level in this league is awesome.
“We’re all working towards the same goal and we’re going to give ourselves the best chance to succeed this season.”
As United inch closer to the start of their NBL24 campaign, excitement surrounding the team continued to rise.
