Travers excited to join ‘super stacked’ MU roster

After making the move to Melbourne United in one of the league's biggest off-season signings, Luke Travers is eagerly awaiting his opportunity to hit the court with his new teammates.
The 21-year-old star makes up part of what some have called the league’s strongest local core, featuring elite talent such as returning stars Matthew Dellavedova, Jo Lual-Acuil Jr, Shea Ili and Chris Goulding.
Speaking on the FatChat by Body Majic podcast, which was recorded prior to Dellavedova’s signing, Travers touched on his excitement ahead of next season.

“We’ve got a super stacked team at the moment, a lot of local talent,” he said.
“Jo Lual-Acuil Jr… I spent a little bit of time with him out in LA and lived with him, so that’ll be super cool to have him on my team.
“Ariel Hukporti… he’s another NBA-type talent. Then obviously Shea Ili, Chris Goulding… to be able to learn from guys like that is something I’m looking forward to, but also to have a bit more of a bigger role or leadership role.”
Currently in California preparing for NBA Summer League where he will play with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Travers has been working tirelessly to improve.
One area of his game that he has gained confidence in is his outside shot, which he connected on at an elite rate over the second half of the season.
Over his final 14 games, ‘LT’ shot 53.5% from deep on over three attempts per game, which was the highest mark by any player that had attempted as many three-pointers.
The athletic forward credited a shift in attitude for the improvement.
“I think there was just a real shift in mentality, I wasn’t second guessing my shots, I wasn’t thinking ‘am I open?’ or ‘am I getting closed out?’. I was just shooting with confidence,” he explained.
“It was about narrowing those little points down like getting down in a stance and knowing when you’re open, shoot it with confidence.”
With NBA Summer League beginning in just over a month, expect big things from Travers, who is coming in with a strong sense of belonging.

“I’m looking forward to it a lot. I got the first one out of the way last year and now I’m going over super confident, I know what to expect and it should be a lot of fun.”
