United launch UNITED FOR HER community program

Melbourne United is excited to launch our new community basketball program, United for Her, a passionate and purposeful initiative designed to break down barriers, foster inclusivity, and create meaningful pathways for women and girls to get involved in basketball. 

United for Her includes free basketball clinics, tailored coaching workshops and leadership seminars across the entirety of Victoria.

These will operate with the aim of empowering women to achieve their full potential both on and off the court.

United for Her has been made possible as part of the Federal Government’s Play Our Way program, which was established to address participation barriers faced by women and girls, while providing safe, inclusive, quality and sustainable facilities, equipment and initiatives, and helping women and girls to remain involved in sport and physical activity for life.

Melbourne United CEO Nick Truelson said he is excited about the potential of United for Her to help promote sport generationally.

“At Melbourne United, it’s our purpose to use the power of basketball to inspire, entertain and enrich people’s lives,” he explained.

“United for Her provides us with a tremendous opportunity to act on that purpose by getting out within the community and action initiatives that can help promote sport for women and girls, while also living our core value of inclusion.

“Our hope is for women and girls to come through the program having had a positive experience within the sporting environment, which they can build on moving forward.

“We have an amazing Advisory Committee behind United for Her. The passion on display to make this program the best it can be will be on display in every clinic and seminar we do.

“I want to thank the Australian Government for their support in bringing United for Her to life through the Play Our Way program. It is with this funding that we can hopefully make a huge difference within the community.”
