Melbourne will host a pair of Throwdown matchups across the NBL25 regular season

It’s undeniable that rivalries make sports better, and in the NBL, there’s no more fierce rivalry than Melbourne United and the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Since the Phoenix’s inception into the league, the two sides have met in a collection of fiery Throwdown matchups, which always deliver intense and exciting action.

Across the years, United have established a dominance over the rivalry, having won 17 of the 24 Throwdowns, including nine of the past 11 meetings.

Having coached in every Throwdown game, Dean Vickerman touched on what makes these matchups special.

“Wherever you play, you want to be the best team and that’s no different here in Victoria and in Melbourne,” he elaborated.

“There have always been great rivalries between the Victorian NBL teams, and this is just the newest version of that.

“We swept them last year, our goal is to do the same this year.”
