United will be looking for a bounce-back effort against the Bullets in Round 10

Following Melbourne United’s loss to the Cairns Taipans on Sunday afternoon, Head Coach Dean Vickerman spoke about how his side needs to improve moving forward.

MU allowed 115 points, their most of the season, which included a pair of 30+ point quarters from the visitors. Up to that point in the season, teams had only scored 30 or more in three of the previous 48 quarters.

Looking at how the game played out, Vickerman vowed to make sure United don’t see a repeat of the opening half again this season.

“We’ll ensure that we don’t come out and have a first quarter or a first half like that again for the rest of the season,” he said of the 67 points Melbourne gave up in the first half.

“(We had to play) heavy catchup after the first quarter… My reflection on that is I think the things we talked about were probably similar to what it was in the Sydney game when we were down heavy.

“I didn’t think we were quite ‘us’ defensively… A lot of credit to them (Cairns), they made some adjustments in the break.”

United will next face the Brisbane Bullets at home on Sunday from 2pm.

This contest will see Melbourne debut their DC Multiverse Jerseys. To make sure you don’t miss a second of the action, secure your seat today.
