Vickerman eyeing limitless potential of local core
Written by Melbourne United Media
Melbourne United’s want to establish the best local core in the league has been clear to see throughout this offseason.
Building on an elite base of Chris Goulding and Shea Ili, the additions of Luke Travers, Tanner Krebs, Flynn Cameron and Kyle Bowen combined with the returns of Jo Lual-Acuil Jr and Brad Newley has United looking scary as the organisation progresses through the offseason.
Each of those players have already represented their nation at the senior level, except for Krebs, who has donned the green and gold as a junior.
Looking at his lineup of Australian and New Zealand talent, along with returning Next Star Ariel Hukporti, Head Coach Dean Vickerman believes the sky's the limit for what they can achieve both with United and in their careers.

“Building a local core has been the absolute focus of this offseason,” he said.
“Having Shea and CG locked in, having Ariel and Newley return, and now to add pieces like Jo Lual-Acuil Jr, Luke Travers, Flynn Cameron, Tanner Krebs and Kyle Bowen, it’s just a bunch of exciting local talent that you can see making big contributions both now and over the next five years.
“You can see they all have very bright futures and have opportunities to play for the Boomers, play for the Tall Blacks, play in the NBA.
“I’m excited by the level of talent we’ve been able to recruit and how we’re able to combine them to really challenge for a Championship this year.”
