United’s front office is evaluating potential imports at NBA Summer League

With the NBL25 season fast approaching, Melbourne United are getting closer to completing their roster build for the upcoming season.

Already stacked with elite Australian and New Zealand talent, United are eyeing off potential imports who can help the team compete for another NBL championship.

Before jetting off to Las Vegas for NBA Summer League, Dean Vickerman spoke about what sort of players he and the front office are looking for.

“A couple of big (positions to fill),” he said.

“Our center position where JLA (Jo Lual-Acuil Jr) was there last year with Ariel Hukporti. We’ve got Rob Loe coming in but that’s going to be a key signing for us and we’re yet to sign the Ian Clark position that we had at guard last year as well so we’re going to Summer League with a bit of a shopping list.”

While identifying the most talented stars to add to his lineup is crucial, making sure whoever MU ends up signing is a cohesive culture fit is equally important for Vickerman.

“It’s always culture fit first. We look at the people and see if they have unselfish behaviour, do they value winning, how are they on the day to day so there’ll be a lot of digging in the people that we recognise that have a skillset that complements the rest of the players on our team.”

“It’ll be an extensive search and a lot of late nights.”
