The newly signed guard is excited to return to an NBL court for the first time since 2019

After what will have been over six years, NBL26 will see Tom Wilson make his return to an NBL court.

The highly touted Australian prospect’s road back to the league has been well documented, however while he was able to reach such great heights as a junior hooper, he believes his best basketball is yet to come.

In the NBL1 South last season, Wilson ranked among the top scoring locals. So far in 2025, he leads the entire conference with 27.5 points per game, while ranking in the top five for assists (5.8 per game).

Looking ahead, Wilson says he’s got a lot left to give United come the NBL26 season.

“I was 26 when I finished playing footy so I felt like I still had a lot of my athletic prime ahead of me," he explained.

“Not knowing what could have been had I never played AFL was a big driving force, but I think the things I learnt playing footy and being a professional athlete in a different sport are going to help me moving forward.

“Once I made the decision to try and do this, I was fully hooked, there was no stopping me. You can do all the practice you want, but until you get back on the court against a quality opponent with referees, you never really know what it’s going to be like.

“Since coming back to the NBL1 I’ve felt really comfortable on the court, but I’m sure when the time comes to step back onto an NBL court for the first time since 2019, there will be a lot of emotions.”
